This is volume 17 of what we hope will be interesting bits of motion picture trivia, legend and other useless stuff brought to you by Movie Time! the board game of memorable movie quotes. This information is compiled from numerous sources and is offered to customers and supporters of Movie Time! to make their game playing more enjoyable.
If you like receiving this information, please forward it to your e-mail friends . If you prefer not to receive these offerings, just send a reply message and ask to be taken off the list.
Since we have been sending these tidbits, we have added many names to the mailing list. Therefore, we have decided to recycle some of the earlier bits of movie trivia along with the new stuff so we will include several older items with the new stuff. Also, some alert game players have identified several mistakes which we made in the development of the game. Current purchases include the corrections but earlier purchasers do not have them. The corrections are included at the bottom of this edition. You may want to print this and cut off that portion and stick it in the game box.
Movie Trivia
Real life Apollo 13 astronaut, Jim Lovell, can be seen in the "Apollo 13" movie as the Captain of the aircraft carrier Iwo Jima as his character played by Tom Hanks makes his way through the crowd of sailors after returning from their harrowing mission.
Stewart Granger's real name was James Stewart and James Stewart's real name was James Stewart.
At the end of the 1959 film "Operation Petticoat" a child actor who plays Tony Curtis' son, greets Cary Grant with "Hi Mr. Grant" instead of Grant's character name of Admiral Sherman. This mistake can clearly be heard on the film.
And speaking of mistakes and Cary Grant; in "North by Northwest" when Eva Marie Saint pulls a gun to shoot Grant, a boy sitting at a table in the background can be seen putting his fingers in his ears before she fires, even though he is not facing her.
Movie Facts
The bolckbuster film of 1957 was "The Bridge on the River Kwai" starring Alec Guinness. The movie won seven Oscars including best picture. Imagine the embarrassment to the director and producer when someone pointed out that the star's name was misspelled in the opening credits. It was spelled with only one 'n'.
"Clueless" (1995) is a movie about high school sophomore Cher Horowitz played by Alicia Silverstone. In one scene Cher 's report card is shown close up and the name on the card is Cher Hamilton, not Horowitz.
Fred MacMurray plays a bachelor in 1944's classic "Double Indemnity". So, why is he wearing a wedding band?
Meryl Streep was so excited about winning the 1979 Academy Award for best actress (Kramer vs. Kramer) she lost it...at the awards ceremony. It was later found on the back of the toilet in the ladies room. Let's see, I've got my purse, fresh make up, anything else? Nope, I'm good to go.
Some people just can't catch a break. Columbia Pictures producer Jerry Tokovsky told a struggling actor that he was stiff and unappealing. "You ain't got it, kid" he informed aspiring actor Harrison Ford. Wonder what ever happened to that Ford guy.
There is a scene in the movie "Erin Brockovich" (2000) where the character Erin (Julia Roberts) and her kids are in a restaurant. Their waitress is real life Erin Brokovich wearing a nametag that reads "Julia".
