Movie Time! FAQ

Romantic Movie LinesQ. We had so much fun playing, how did you come up with the idea?

A. We were at a Christmas party and the woman in charge of entertainment brought sheets of paper with movie quotes copied on them. We had to pair up and try to identify the movie. We were really bad at the game but had so much fun that I started thinking of a way to expand the concept.

Q. Why just use quotes, I have seen some other games that includes other movie trivia?

A. We have always admired good writing and decide to focus exclusively on great quotes and leave the general trivia to others. Also, there are some lines that are somewhat obscure but are worthy of including in your daily storehouse of clever sayings. Movie Time! gives you lots of ammunition to impress your friends.

Q. How many lines are there in the game?

A. There are 1792 lines from about 930 movies. Movie Time! has more questions than any other movie trivia game. And this is really important for trivia type games. Players do not want repeats showing up for a long time. Early in the development process, we also decided to use no more than four quotes from any film so that there would be lots of variety.

Q. Is this a computer game and have you thought about making a computer version?

A. It is not a computer game. It was developed as a board game to capture the fun we had as a group. Our hope that the game will promote some fun social interaction that we encountered at that Christmas party. We have found that Movie Time! facilitates great conversations and fond memories from group members.

Q. What is your favorite line?

A. That is a tough question. Probably my all-time favorite is "Now I know what you're thinking; did he fire six shots back there or only five. Tell you the truth, I sort of lost track myself in all this excitement.but being as this is a .44 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and could blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question; do I feel lucky.well, do you punk?" Wow, that's a long one and my memory may now have it exactly but it's close.

Q. I don't think I would be very good at this game, I don't see a lot of movies.

A. Actually, even if you are a major movie buff, it can be a little difficult for an individual to get the lesser-known lines. But, you would be surprised how many a team of 3-5 people can correctly answer. The game gives you the year, actor(s) and the quote so there is a point of reference for players to reason out the answer.

Q. What kinds of movies are included in the game?

A. All kinds and all years of American films are included from 1927, which gave us the very first line spoken in a movie up to and including 2002's "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". Most quotes probably come from movies released in the last 20 years, the ones that are seen on television all the time. Movies selected for inclusion are generally those of wide audience appeal.

Q. Are there any questions from children's movies?

A. Yes there are. More than once I have observed groups of people playing and the adults on a team had to get the kid to bail them out and win the day. Mommies are also good at these questions because they have heard the lines thousands of times.

Q. Some of the language in movies can be very bad, is it safe for my kids to play?

A. I would say that Movie Time! might be rated PG. There are a few (probably less than ten) quotes that include a salty word. We edited some but a few just had to stay to keep the essence of the quote. But even with that, there is nothing that is not heard on network television. We are sensitive to these lines and suggest that if kids are participating, have an adult look at the line before letting the child read it. If that adult feels it is inappropriate, select another card.

Q. Are you planning additional versions or sets of questions?

A. We plan to have another version out one day but cannot say when that will be. There are still lots of good quotes we have not used. Please keep watching the Website for progress reports.

Q. Are there any mistakes in the game?

A. Sadly, there are a few mistakes. It is almost impossible to collect and log that much information without a few bloopers. When games are shipped, they include a sheet with the correct information on these items.

Here are a few:

There is a line from a 1997 movie attributed to Eddie Murphy. The line is, "The difference between you and me, I make this look good." That line was from Will Smith .

There is a line from a 1977 movie attributed to Diane Keaton that starts, "I can't believe that you haven't had sex for two hundred years." The second part of that quote, "Two hundred four if you count my marriage." was Woody Allen 's line. Sorry Woody.

The 1998 Bruce Willis line, "The CIA didn't know that the Berlin Wall was falling until the bricks started hitting them in the face." was incorrectly attributed to "Under Siege". The correct answer is "The Siege".

Q. Are the game board and cards constructed to high standards?

A. The games are manufactured and assembled by the same plant that manufactures Trivial Pursuit® and it is printed to the same specifications.

Q. I probably could name some of the movies but I bet some of the quotes are really hard.

A. Some are difficult. That is why we give the players the actor(s) and year as a point of reference so that they can use some reasoning and their memory to get the answer. We also reward harder questions with more points. All other game considers each question of equal value.

Q. Is there a strategy to the game or is it just how well you can remember?

A. There is an ability to employ some strategy as the game proceeds. Four of the playing spaces are "your choice" spaces where the player tells their opponents what degree of difficulty they want. They may want an easy quote that only provides 1 point and gives them an opportunity to keep control of the board, or they may want to go for the big 4-point question and rack up some points.

Q. Is there anything else that is interesting about Movie Time! ?

A. Even though it is not part of the game, you will get a nice dose of movie history. Some of the movies' familiar quotes are frequently misquoted. Movie Time! players get the correct lines. You will learn who said famous lines like, "Badges, I don't have to show you any stinking badges!" (By the way, the original line was not, "We don't need no stinking badges." although that was used in a movie three decades later). You will learn who provided the voice for many animated characters. There is a lot of cool information we discovered while researching the project.
