How to Play Movie Time Game

History | Game Pictures Funny Movie Quotes

Items Needed:

Game board*
Card box*
1 Token for each player/team*
1 Die*
1 Scrap piece of paper
1 Stubby little golf pencil

* Items are included and shipped with game.

Object:

The object of the game is to accumulate points by identifying movies from lines provided. To assist in movie identification, the actor (actress) and the year of release are included with the line. There are four degrees of difficulty. One is the easiest; four is the hardest. When you correctly identify a movie, you receive the value of the question. The first player/team to get 50 points wins.

Game Preparation:

Before you start the game, let's get in the right Movie Time! mood. Pop a big bowl of popcorn. Ooh, that really smells great. Ready? Here we go. Each player/team places their token on any game board playing spaces that they like. We know, games are supposed to start at a certain space, well this one doesn't.

Game Play:

Each player/team rolls the die to determine who goes first. Highest number starts play. The player/team having the highest opening roll will then roll the die to begin the game. That player/team moves their token in a clockwise direction the number of spaces rolled.

If the token lands on a numbered play space, an opposing player/team will draw a card from the box and read the corresponding degree of difficulty movie line from either side of the card. Since there are lines on both sides of the card the player/team reading the line should not review both sides before deciding which line to read. Just pull the card and read it. Your opponents are sneaky. You gotta watch 'em like a hawk.

If your token lands on a "Your Choice" play space, you tell the opposing player/team what degree of difficulty you would like.

When opponents read the lines, they should include all information such as, "In 1981 Sally Field asked, 'Who was he to preach?' and Paul Newman replied, 'He wasn't preaching. He said that if I wanted to be a thief, I ought to know what the life is like.'"

If you correctly identify the movie, roll again and continue play until you answer incorrectly, then play passes to the player/team on your left.

Winning:

The first player/team to accumulate 50 points wins. A certain amount of trash talking may be expected at that point.

Notes:

  • Italics are used to identify a second actor/actress and their line(s).
  • If a card uses "the voice of" it usually means that this is an animated, non-human character or off camera voice.
  • The lines have been collected from numerous resources including memory and some editorial license was exercised so we could use a typeface that can actually be seen so all lines may not be exactly as you remember but they are close and still maintain their context.
  • If you hear some lines you like, please support the industry that gave it to us by buying or renting the movie.
